About four hours will bring you to this interesting park located in the south of Tanzania.  The 3,230-kilometre square park lies in the shadow of the Uluguru Mountains to the northeast while being nestled between the Rubeho Mountains, Udzungwa Mountain National Park, and Rift Valley escarpment to the southwest.

What to Expect

In Mikumi expect to see buffalo, giraffes, elephants, lions, pythons, zebras, leopards, crocodiles, and less common antelope such as eland, greater kudu, and sable.

 

  • The Park was founded in 1964 and is named after the spindle shaped Borassus palm trees.
  • The Park covers an area of 3,230 km² bordering Udzungwa National Park
  • June to October is the best time to visit Mikumi National Park.
  • Mikumi National Park is 175 miles from Dar es Salaam.
Itinerary

Day 1Dar es Salaam - Mikumi National Park - Dar es Salaam

In the morning at around 05:30 hours, we’ll pick you up from your hotel in Dar-es-Salaam and drive you to Mikumi National Park. This trip takes about 4-5 hours to get to the park, so you will take your coffee break en route. After check-in at the park entrance gate, you will continue with the game drive till around 13:00 hours whereby you will have a lunch break inside the park. After a short lunch break, you’ll continue with the game drive observing the wildlife. At around 16:30 hours you will start driving back to Dar es Salaam. Upon arrival in Dar Es Salaam, you will be taken to your hotel.
