The day involves a gentle trek across the Shira Plateau, one of Kilimanjaro’s most scenic areas. Expansive views of the summit dominate the landscape as you arrive at Shira Camp 2, where the afternoon is dedicated to rest or optional acclimatization.
This key acclimatization day involves ascending to Lava Tower for high-altitude exposure before descending into the dramatic Barranco Valley. Giant senecios and steep cliffs frame the campsite, with Barranco Camp offering stunning sunset views of the glaciers.
The morning begins with the climb up the Barranco Wall, a hands-on but non-technical ascent with rewarding views. The trail continues across ridges and valleys before arriving at Karanga Camp, allowing further adaptation to altitude.
A steady climb leads toward Barafu Camp, the final base before the summit attempt. The landscape becomes more rugged and alpine, with clear views of Mawenzi Peak. The afternoon is reserved for rest, hydration, and preparation for summit night.
The summit attempt begins late at night, ascending steadily to Stella Point at sunrise before continuing to Uhuru Peak. After celebrating the achievement, you descend to Barafu Camp for rest and continue down to Mweka Camp for overnight recovery.
