Lake Eyasi, Tanzania

Lake Eyasi is a seasonal shallow Salt Lake at the bottom of the Great Rift Valley at the foot of the Serengeti Plateau, south of the Ngorongoro highlands. The Lake surpasses Lake Manyara in size, and the saline border extends and shrinks depending on the amount of rain that has fallen over the year. The Lake covers an area of about 1,050 square km (400 square miles).

The area is home to the Hadzabe bushmen that will take you on a hunt. The Hadzabe Bushmen are one of the last remaining hunter-gatherers in Africa and live solely on the land. Just as in the Stone Age, as our ancestors did for thousands of years. You can also find the Datoga and Mbulu tribes here.

Lake Eyasi is also the habitat of large populations of flamingos and pelicans in the breeding season. The other birds at Lake Eyasi include Fischer’s lovebird, pelican, spurfowl, and stork.
