Overview of Nyerere National Park

Located in southern Tanzania, Nyerere National Park covers an immense area of untouched wilderness, characterized by savannah plains, wetlands, rivers, and woodlands. The park is named after Tanzania’s first president, Julius Nyerere. The park together with Mikumi National Park together forms the Selous Ecosystem. Ruaha National Park is the second biggest National Park after Nyerere National Park.

The lifeblood of Nyerere National Park is the Rufiji River, which creates a network of channels, lakes, and swamps that support an abundance of wildlife.
