Tanzanian Safari Cost

8 Factors That Make Up for The Total Cost of a Tanzanian Safari

When planning for Tanzania Safari one of the questions that comes to mind is how much does a Safari cost? Well, several factors contribute to the overall safari price, largely determined by a Travel Style. Below are the 8 common factors:

  • Length of the Safari

The more days you spend on your tour, the more the cost of a safari will be. For example, the Safari vehicle is charged per day, and as more time you spend with your guide and vehicles, the overall costs increase despite the costs per day may decrease. You might want to consider a shorter itinerary to reduce the Tanzania safari cost per day per person.

  • Group Size

Whether it is a Joining Safari or Private Safari as the number of people increases the price per person decreases and vice versa is true.

  • Destination

The destinations that you select will decide your overall cost of the Tanzania Safari. The famous national parks and reserves in northern Tanzania such as Serengeti, and Ngorongoro Crater are much more expensive than the parks in Southern Tanzania. The lesser-known parks such as Mkomazi, Saadani, or Arusha National Parks are less expensive still with a plethora of wildlife.

  • Fees

Park entry fees are charged on a 24-hour basis and don’t get cheaper the longer you stay in a park and the more parks you visit, the higher the cost of the safari. Each park has an entrance fee, and the fee varies depending on the park and the number of days you stay. Staying for overnights inside the park or reserves attracts more fees than staying outside the park but also the park fee increases as the number of activities increases.

  • Location and Level of Accommodation

The accommodations’ comfort levels that range from budget to luxury contribute to the overall cost of the safari. Doing a safari in the low season can save you up to 50% on accommodation costs. Accommodation is much more expensive in peak seasons, especially in big parks and reserves like in Serengeti and Ngorongoro. The location also affects the overall cost of the Safari, for example, most lodges outside the park gates are less expensive than the lodges within the park.

  • Mode of Transport

The fly-in Safari is more expensive than the road safari. Generally, the price of the flight is based on per person basis while the price for a safari vehicle is shared with a group. If you plan to visit remote parks like Katavi and Mahale Mountains National Park, using domestic flights may be necessary. However, this will increase your overall Tanzania Vacation Cost.

  • Additional Services and Activities

Additional services and activities, such as hot air balloon rides, cultural tours, and guided walks, will increase the total cost of your safari. But they also add to the experience and may be worth the extra cost.

  • Travel Seasons

The high season from June to September and mid-December to mid-February are expensive times for a Tanzania safari. From March to May rains sweep across much of the country and mark the low season. This is the cheapest time to go on safari with prices often 50% lower than in high season.

  • How is the Safari cost calculated?

The overall safari budget is calculated from the prices derived from those factors above. The cost is divided based on the number of people to get the price per person considering the child rates. A budget safari can cost as little as $150 per person per day depending on the destination, and a luxury safari over $1,000 per person per day. A mid-range Tanzania safari costs $300 to $500 per person per day.

Top, absolute Empfehlung!

4-days safari through 4 national parks: amazing trip!

Just wonderful :-) Germano organized two game drives for us – to Arusha National Park and to Lake Manyara. He’s super friendly and 100 percent reliable. From the first e-mail till the last day: Everything was perfect! Our driver, Rich, was the best guide ever: He’s a really safe driver, very friendly (such a great smile ☺), incredible nice to talk to and can tell you a lot about animals, landscape and culture. Not to forget: He spotted thousands of animals for us! Giraffes, zebras, elephants, monkeys, flamingos, buffalos, hippos – and even lions. We spent a great time with African Vista and can strongly recommend it! Germano, Rich – thank you very, very much for two wonderful days, we will never forget!!! Sandra and Tanja

Close contact with giraffes I took a day-safari together with my 5-years old daughter to Arusha National Park. We booked it just a day before and thus short notice it was perfectly planned. We had a great vehicle with a roof that could open so we could stand and watch all the animals. The park offered close contact many animals. Zebras, giraffes, warthogs, flamingos, hippos and different monkeys was the favorite. We had a lovely lunch break by a lake, while listening to the hippos snoring in the lake. The driver shared a lot of knowledge about the animals, plants and the park. Al together it was a perfect day for both me and my daughter.

Very helpful people, great safari We booked a 9 days camping safari via Germano (African Vista). As we did not book an itinerary upon our arrival, we needed to make a last minute booking in Tanzania. Germano was very helpful and spent hours planning our trip. We signed up for a safari to Arusha NP, Tarangire, Lake Natron, Serengeti (north and central), ngorogoro crater and lake Manyara. Our guide, Richard, and cook, Hubert, were excellent. Very friendly, genuine people who made us feel comfortable and appreciated. Richard has tons of experience and had a lot of patience, rather than rushing from one place to another. This was a very good strategy as the best sightings were seen after waiting patiently for things to happen. Hubert’s cooking (with a special recognition for his delicious soup) was great, lots of variety between local and western food. Amazing how he could fix us pizza, stews, crispy beef, marinated chicken, soup, pasta, ... with limited the facilities that were available to him. Amongst others, we’ve seen the wildebeest migration in northern serengeti, hunting cheetahs, leopards, lions, hippos, tons of hoofed mamals, elephants, girafs, zebras, buffalos, monkeys, hyenas, jackals, wild fox and many more. In summary: we’ve had a great time with great company. After the safari, Germano arranged our next trip to Usambara and even gave us a follow up call to see how we were doing and whether the transition to other parts was smooth. Thank you Germano, Richard and Hubert for making this an unforgettable experience.
