Your Tanzanian adventure begins and ends in Zanzibar! You’ll start with a road transfer to Mikumi National Park, where you’ll be immersed in the wild and enjoy exciting game drives, spotting the incredible animals that call Tanzania home.

What to Expect

On this 6-day safari, you can expect varied landscapes in each park. There are common animals that can be found in both Mikumi and Nyerere National Park, which together form the Selous ecosystem. While Mikumi National Park is picturesque, with savannahs, a tamarind tree-lined river, and a stunning mountain backdrop, Nyerere National Park has vast savannahs, riverine forests, and the scenic Rufiji River. Udzungwa Mountains National Park has tropical rainforest, leafy glades, and spectacular waterfalls.

Itinerary

Day 1Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park

Begin your adventure with a scenic drive from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park, a journey of about 6-8 hours through lush Tanzanian landscapes and rolling hills. Enjoy a picnic lunch en route, soaking in the local atmosphere.

Upon arrival at Mikumi National Park, you’ll take a brief break at the Camp before embarking on a 1 to 2-hour Maasai Cultural tour, offering a unique cultural experience. Later, you will return to the Camp for a delightful dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2Full Day Safari in Mikumi National Park

This is dedicated to exploring Mikumi’s diverse landscapes. Today’s game drives offer chances to see elephants, lions, and other wildlife in their natural habitats. Spot the majestic lions lounging in the shade or the herds of buffalo roaming the plains. Take a break for lunch, then venture out again, soaking in the park’s beauty and wildlife encounters. Keep an eye out for the park’s over 400 bird species, making it a birdwatcher’s paradise.

Day 3Mikumi to Udzungwa Mountains National Park

Embark on a full-day hike, immersing yourself in Udzungwa’s unique biodiversity and stunning scenery. Explore the park’s hidden valleys, ridges, and waterfalls, spotting endemic species, home to rare species like the Iringa red colobus monkey and Sanje crested mangabey, and enjoying the serene atmosphere.  Trek to the breathtaking Sanje Waterfalls, cascading 180 meters through Udzungwa’s lush forests. Later in the late afternoon, unwind at your camp, reflecting on the day’s adventures and perhaps enjoying a refreshing dip in the swimming pool.

Day 4Udzungwa to Nyerere National Park

Following an early breakfast around 6:30 am, you’ll set off from Morogoro for a scenic 6 to 7-hour journey to Nyerere National Park via Matambwe Gate, enjoying the game drive and Tanzania’s breathtaking landscapes along the way. You’ll enjoy a lunch duringthe trip. You will take a brief break at the camp before embarking on a boat safari along the majestic Rufiji River.

Uniquely, the Rufiji River wildlife viewing experience promises abundant sightings of hippos and crocodiles as well as a variety of bird species. Before the sun sets, you will have a sundowner stop in the sandbank. After witnessing the sunset, you’ll head back to the camp for a delightful dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5Early Morning Bush Walk and Game Drive

Today, you will be woken up for early morning coffee and tea before departing for a bush walk set at 6:30 am. Guided by a qualified bush guide, you will learn about nature’s finer details like bird, tree, and spoor identification. You will be back at the camp for the full breakfast at 8:30 am.

After the full breakfast, your wildlife adventure kicks off as you enter the park, venturing into prime wildlife viewing areas to witness the incredible animals in their natural habitat. Get ready for the excitement of spotting impalas, lions, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, elephants, buffaloes, kudus, and more fascinating wildlife.

By midday, you’ll relish a delightful lunch at one of the picturesque picnic spots within the park. You’ll spend the rest of the day immersed in wildlife viewing, bird watching, and making stops at various waterholes along the way. As the day winds down, you’ll exit the park in the late afternoon and head back to the camp for a tranquil evening of relaxation.

Day 6Morning breakfast + Flight to Zanzibar + Hotel Transfer

As your incredible safari adventure comes to an end, you’ll enjoy your final breakfast in Nyerere Tented Camp before being transferred to the airstrip for a scenic flight to Zanzibar. Upon arrival in Zanzibar, you will be transferred to your hotel. This journey has been truly remarkable. You’ll return home with unforgettable photos and captivating stories to share with your loved ones.
