This diverse 7-day safari takes you deep into southern Tanzania’s most exciting ecosystems. From the open savannahs of Mikumi to the rainforest trails of Udzungwa and the wild, baobab-studded landscapes of Ruaha, you’ll experience the best of both game viewing and nature trekking. The journey concludes with a scenic bush flight to Mafia Island, where turquoise waters and vibrant coral reefs await, perfect for unwinding or diving into marine adventures.
Depart early from Dar es Salaam for Mikumi National Park (approx. 4-5 hour drive). Arrive at the lodge or camp for lunch and rest. Afternoon game drive in Mikumi’s open plains, spotting elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, and more.
Morning and afternoon game drives in Mikumi. Explore different parts of the park including the Mkata Floodplain and hippo pools. Enjoy bird watching and game viewing from the comfort of an open-sided 4×4 vehicle.
Drive to Udzungwa Mountains National Park (approx. 3 hours). Check into your lodge or camp near the park. Afternoon nature hike to explore the park’s rich biodiversity, including endemic primates like the Sanje mangabey and beautiful waterfalls.
Full day of guided walks through the rainforest trails. Visit waterfalls, swim in natural pools, and enjoy spotting rare wildlife and birds. This day offers a different safari experience focused on trekking and nature.
Drive to Ruaha National Park (approx. 6-7 hours). Arrive at the lodge or camp, enjoy sundowner views overlooking the Ruaha River. Rest after the long journey.
Morning and afternoon game drives in Ruaha, Tanzania’s second-largest park. Famous for large herds of elephants, lions, leopards, and diverse birdlife. Explore the park’s diverse landscapes from baobab-studded plains to riverine forests.
Transfer to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to Mafia Island. Arrive in Mafia for a relaxing beach stay or further exploration of marine activities such as snorkeling, diving, or visiting the famous Mafia Marine Park.
