What to Expect

Expect the unexpected is a good rule for your game drive in Saadani National Park. You never know what you’ll see but your driver/guide will be looking out for land animals like elephants, lions, giraffes, buffalo, zebra, waterbuck, sable antelope, and birds like the African hornbill. There is a great possibility of spotting hippos, crocodiles, and a range of marine and riverine birds, including the mangrove kingfisher and lesser flamingo, on stretches of the Wami river.

  • Saadani has been officially a National Park since 2005, before that it was a game reserve and hunting ground since 1964.
  • The Saadani village located at the park's entry was once a major port in German period in East Africa.
