Itinerary

Day 1Arrival – Kilimanjaro International Airport to Moshi

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you are met by the African Vista team and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. The day includes a detailed climb briefing, equipment check, and time to relax before beginning your Kilimanjaro adventure.

Day 2Rongai Gate – Simba Camp

After breakfast, you travel to Rongai Gate for registration before starting the trek through farmland and montane forest. The trail is gentle and scenic, with chances to spot colobus monkeys as you ascend gradually to Simba Camp for your first night on the mountain.

Day 3Simba Camp – Kikelewa Caves

The route continues through open moorland with clear views of Kibo Peak. After passing Second Cave, the trail climbs steadily through heather and lobelia zones, leading to the peaceful Kikelewa Caves campsite, surrounded by wide mountain scenery.

Day 4Kikelewa Caves – Mawenzi Tarn

A shorter but steeper ascent brings you into the alpine zone, where vegetation thins and dramatic views dominate. The trail leads to Mawenzi Tarn, a stunning campsite set beneath the sharp ridges of Mawenzi Peak, offering time for rest and acclimatization.

Day 5Mawenzi Tarn – Kibo Hut

The trek crosses the Saddle, a high-altitude desert stretching between Mawenzi and Kibo. This vast and otherworldly landscape gradually rises toward Kibo Hut, where you rest, hydrate, and prepare mentally and physically for the summit attempt.

Day 6Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak – Horombo Hut

The summit climb begins around midnight, ascending past Hans Meyer Cave to Gilman’s Point before continuing along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating at the summit, you descend to Kibo Hut for a short rest, then continue down to Horombo Hut for overnight recovery.

Day 7Horombo Hut – Marangu Gate – Moshi

Descending through moorland and lush rainforest, the trail leads to Marangu Gate, where your Kilimanjaro climb officially concludes. Summit certificates are awarded before returning to Moshi for a hot shower and well-earned rest.

Day 8Departure – Moshi to Kilimanjaro International Airport

After breakfast, you are transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward journey. Optional extensions to Zanzibar beaches or Tanzania safari experiences can be arranged upon request.
