On this trip expect to see large herds of thousands of zebra, wildebeest and cape buffalo in Tarangire especially in dry season from June to September. Other common resident animals include giraffe, dik dik, impala, waterbuck, eland, Grant’s gazelle, mongoose, velvet monkey, and olive baboon. In Ngorongoro crater the majority of the landscape is a large grassy plain, so spotting wildlife is super easy. The crater is arguably the best place in Tanzania to see Big Five.
After a breakfast and short briefing we’ll drive in a south-westerly direction to the Tarangire National Park. The Park has the largest wildlife density in Tanzania besides the Serengeti National Park. Here you will find a variety of animals: zebras, buffalos, impalas, gazelles and various antelope species. During the dry season, many of this wildlife gather on the Tarangire River, making it easier to find them and offering great photo opportunities. Overnight at Kudu Lodge in Karatu or related lodge.
This morning you’ll descend to the Ngorongoro’s crater floor for a day excursion and if you are luckily you’ll see all of the Big Five. The animals here are less wary of humans and vehicles and as a result it’s easier to watch them from up close. Keep an eye out for wildebeest, lion, zebra, cheetah, buffalo, gazelle and the endangered black rhino, as well as the colorfully dressed Maasai people who often water their cattle at the lake. In the afternoon, you’ll drive to Arusha and maybe enjoy an optional group dinner to celebrate this trip and say farewell to your new friends.
