Tanzania Western Safari – Chimpanzee & Wilderness Adventure
The Tanzania’s Western Circuit Safari is a unique and less-explored adventure that showcases the stunning landscapes and diverse wildlife of the western part of the country. This circuit primarily includes parks such as Katavi National Park, – famous for wild chimpanzee trekking along the shores of Lake Tanganyika, Gombe Stream National Park – renowned for chimpanzee research and primate encounters, and Mahale Mountains National Park – a remote savannah wilderness with huge buffalo and hippo populations.
Activities in the Western Circuit include guided chimpanzee trekking, classic 4×4 game drives in Katavi, forest hiking, and boat safaris, especially in Katavi, where you can see large herds of elephants and a variety of other wildlife. In Gombe and Mahale, you can track and observe wild chimpanzees in their natural habitat, which is a highlight for many visitors.
Getting there typically involves flying to either Katavi, Kigoma or Mahale, with domestic flights available from major cities like Dar es Salaam or Arusha. The journey can also include scenic road trips, adding to the overall experience.
