Zanzibar – The semi-autonomous part of Tanzania in the Indian Ocean is a paradise for beach-goers and divers. It is an archipelago of historic islands in the Indian Ocean, flooded with atmosphere, intrigue and idyllic beach experiences. This small island is the birthplace of the Swahili, the seat of the Sultan’s palaces and known for their spice plantations, hence named – “The spice Island”.

Activities in Zanzibar

  • Beach Experience

Relax on powdery beaches with palm trees and massive baobab trees, enjoy glorious pastel-colored sunrises, dive into lazy coastal rhythms and sit under the billowing sails of a wooden dhow.

  • Stone Town Tour

Stroll through the lively, oriental town of Stone Town. A tour of the oriental city of Zanzibar Town, Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with meandering, labyrinthine cobblestone streets and spice markets, completes the Zanzibar vacation.

  • Prison Island

A short 30-minute boat ride from Stone Town will take you to Prison Island. Contrary to the name, no prisoners have lived on this island. Formerly a remote area for the yellow fever epidemic, today it is home to the Aldabra Giant Tortoises, which are the island’s main attraction.

  • Spice Tour

Take part in a Spice Tour on the “Spice Islands”, or take a boat trip to other islands, for example to the former slave island of Prison Island.

  • Jozani Forest Tour

Marvel at the Zanzibar Red Colobus Monkey herds during your tour of Tanzania in Jozani Forest. The Zanzibar’s only national park you will find the endangered red colobus monkeys and many other tree hoppers such as bush babies.

  • Mnemba Tour

Explore the reef of the most beautiful of the tropical islands of Zanzibar – Mnemba – a proverbial paradise of colorful coral reefs, powdery sand beaches, turquoise waters and frolicking dolphins!

  • Green Tour

Discover the secrets of the small, touristic “Green Island”, which lies north of Zanzibar and impresses with its lush vegetation and well-preserved coral reefs. Although the tranquil Pemba of northern Zanzibar is only 80 kilometers away, it offers a great contrast to its world-famous sister island.

  • Dolphin Tour

Dolphin tours and sunset dhow cruises are just some of the ingredients of your vacation. There is really much to discover!

Nungwi and Kendwa in the north are the best beaches on the island. Really beautiful & classic paradise in the Indian Ocean with turquoise waters and really white sand. Pongwe in the east, the only beach in eastern Zanzibar that is not tidal. The tide is always there! Not to compare with the long, sprawling beaches of the north, but the beach is not as crowded as in the north. Paje & Donge in the east and just east of Nungwi, Matemwe in the northeast offer you good beaches.

Zanzibar is booming as a destination, with backpackers and luxury beach vacationers. As a result, there are many fantastic Boutique hotels to choose from. Whether for honeymoon, family vacation or relaxation after the safari there are many activities for every traveler.

Zanzibar Island, Stone Town

Explore Stone Town, the island’s capital and a historic commercial and cultural center. This ancient center was the seat of the sultans, whose crumbling palaces, bathhouses and mosques are a legacy of this opulent and vibrant time in the heart of the gold trade. The labyrinthine streets are lined with merchants selling everything from mass-produced artwork to old wooden doors, from batik T-shirts to jewels.

This old city remains a wonderful place to spend a night or two admiring the elegant old buildings, eating fresh fish by the sea and breathing in the sights, sounds and smells of a real Swahili center. Today, there are a number of boutique hotels in Stone Town that have been recently renovated. In front of the east and north coast of Zanzibar there are excellent reefs with colorful marine life.
